Food, service and atmosphere was all great! Very limited seating is the only drawback for me. We arrived early so wasn’t a problem for our party of 6, and staff was super nice and pushed tables together.
We ordered one cheese pizza, one white pizza with mushrooms, & olives, and one cheese/sausage/olive pizza. Ranked in order#1- plain cheese! Just a great sauce that wasn’t disguised by other topping flavors, #2 was white and #3 was sausage. Crust was thin and crispy, very nicely done and sauce was delicious. Also ordered the Reg. Caesar and it fed 4 adults. The price is good for such a large, delicious pizza. Highly recommend!
Parking: beware of the “permit needed after 4 pm” areas. Don’t get towed! There’s a pay to park lot 1 block away if you can’t find free street parking. Gotta work off those pizza carbs anyway right?
Everything was great! In town for a hockey game and decided to stop in. Square pizza 10/10 but split between 2 people is a lot. Better for 3 people probably. Caesar salad 10/10!
Overall Rating (1-10): 5.5
The takeaway experience from Oakwood Pizza Box was slightly disappointing given the high expectations set by its Google reviews. The limited menu also lessens the likelihood of a repeat visit.
Takeout Process (1-10): 4.8
The online menu was straightforward, and the convenience of Apple Pay meant no extra information was needed for the order. Although there was clear communication about pickup time, having to wait outside was not the warmest welcome. The pizza being lukewarm on collection, having been left on a metal rack, was a downside. However, the separate packaging of fresh basil was a nice touch.
18" Red Pie (1-10): 5.9
This pizza stood out with its high-quality sauce and the perfect amount of tasty cheese. The major drawback was the dough, which was overly chewy and tough, not matching the well-cooked underside of the pizza.
Value (1-10): 7.9
The price of $20 for an 18" pizza of such quality seemed fair and represented good value.
So let me say I USED TO LOVE THIS PLACE. My boyfriend recently moved to Raleigh and I’ve been trying to share my favorite restaurants with him. Imagine my disappointment when we go here and feel discriminated against because we are a mixed couple (the only non all white group in the place). Really? In 2023? Here’s how it went, we go in, sit down and order. About 15 minutes later a group of all white people came and sat next to us and ordered more than us. We wait. 20 plus minutes go by, the other people get all their food and many other orders are getting completed. The father and young son who held the door for us as we all walked in together are finishing up and talking about how full they are. We are ignored, no “oh your order is being prepared can I get you anything else while you wait?” No ANYTHING, just ignoring. We wait. The others eat and enjoy their pizza….we say “should we just leave?” So yeah we are baffled and hungry so we get up to walk out. On the way out they say oh your pizza just finished! I see it and it looks undercooked and like it has no cheese, I don’t even want it. They pack it to go with no charge so ok I get that you are FINALLY doing something you should….but honestly, too little too late. And when we ate it it wasn’t good, barely any cheese and needed to be cooked more. All pizzas are supposed to get fresh basil on them (all the others did) ours got none. Very sad I can’t like this place anymore.
It’s totally fine pizza. Nice crisp bottom so you can pick up a slice and eat it. They give you fresh basil which is a nice touch. The pepperoni has a good flavor, but the cheese slices on their own are unremarkable.
Best pizza in Raleigh. Been coming here for years and not only is it great, it’s consistent. Pizza comes out fast and hot and the basil is fresh. Nicest staff always, even when there are new faces on the crew. Waiter knows me by name! Open kitchen that’s customer facing so you can see the ingredients and the process. Great beer and wine as well
Great gluten free pizza spot in downtown Raleigh. Delicious 18 inch white & cheese pizzas. Beware that there is only one size pizzas here. There are no personal pizzas or sizes smaller than 18 inches. If you want to dine in, get here early to secure a spot or swing by to put your name on their waiting list. Seating is limited so it fills up quickly. Parking may also be limited as it is street parking.
We had heard about this place offering some of the best gluten free pizza in the area, so we wanted to check it out. We finally had the time to go down and were not disappointed.
They have a small outdoor seating area, which was great for today since the weather was so beautiful. The service was great and the gluten free pizza was phenomenal. The crust tastes like the Caputo flour we use at home that is gluten removed. This is the closest pizza dough that we've ever found, other than a pizzeria up in Baltimore that used the Caputo flour in their crusts.
They don't have a ton of topping offerings, but just enough to please either a meat eater or a vegetarian, like myself.
The pricing is also pretty spot on, so this is definitely a place we'll go back to.
